Top Universities With Wealthy Alumni All In U.S.

Harvard University once again tops the list of the world’s universities with the highest number of ultra-high-net-worth alumni, all of which are in the United States, according to Wealth-X, an information source on ultra-high-net-worth individuals.

Harvard University has 3,130 ultra-wealthy individuals among its alumni, far ahead of the University of Pennsylvania with 1,580. All 10 universities on the list are located in the United States, indicating that these American institutions are able to attract students from around the globe, Wealth-X says.

Established in 1636, Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. It has more than 360,000 alumni around the world, according to its website.

Seven of the 10 schools are on the East Coast, showing the concentration of UHNW alumni wealth in the area, Wealth-X says. The sole West Coast institution on the list is Stanford University, number three with 1,240, in California. Representing the Midwest are the University of Chicago, number seven with 665, and Northwestern University, number eight with 575, both in the Chicago metropolitan area of Illinois.

Columbia University is fourth with 940, New York University fifth with 860, Massachusetts Institute of Technology sixth with 670, Yale ninth at 570, and Cornell last with 560.

There were 211,275 UHNW individuals in the world in 2014, defined as those with at least $30 million, according to Wealth-X, with 5 percent coming from the top 10 universities.
